The Midland Metro Alliance has been shortlisted in multiple categories at the prestigious Global Light Rail Awards to be held in London next month. The ceremony acknowledges the most important contributions and projects in the light rail industry.
The Midland Metro Alliance, which came into being in July 2016, has been nominated in four categories recognising the organisation’s work in the areas of safety and innovation, as well as project development and outreach.
The organisation’s Development Team has been shortlisted for Team of the Year and the work that the Midland Metro Alliance has been undertaking to upskill local people has been shortlisted in the Vision of the Year category.
It was the third award nomination this year for the training programme which offers unemployed candidates across the region an opportunity to achieve accredited qualifications and gain practical work experience.
In addition, the Midland Metro Alliance’s health and safety reporting App, CARL, has been nominated in the category of Best Safety Initiative. CARL, which stands for ‘Call, Action, Response, Learn’, allows staff members to quickly log useful health and safety information via a smartphone app. The software makes it easy to add photographs and precise GPS location tags to calls which assists the health and safety team to investigate any issues.
Finally, the use of another software package by the Midland Metro Alliance was recognised in the category of Best Technical Innovation (Infrastructure). The Geographical Information System is used to show complex societal, environmental and construction data in a 3D setting and assists in streamlining route creation.
Alejandro Moreno, Director of Midland Metro Alliance, said of the nominations: “The whole team at the Midland Metro Alliance works incredibly hard and it is great to be shortlisted by our industry peers in this way, particularly in all important areas such as safety.”
The Global Light Rail Awards takes place on Wednesday, 4 October in London.
